Greetings Spud Runners!

In 1992 a couple of intrepid Blue Knights invited all Blue Knights to join them at the "Super 8 Motel" in Boise for a weekend of festivities and friendship. No registration, no organized rides, no pins or T-shirts. 18 people showed up. The following year was moved to an old motel across from the University Inn (where the Starbucks' is now located). Several years later, and with greater numbers, the gathering moved to the University Inn. Even though numbers have grown to as many as 200 folks attending, the Spud Run remains unchanged as it is an “unofficial” run... Just name a place and folks will be there to have a good time!

As most have heard the University Inn has been sold to the University and will be closing come October 2006. Some of the original Spud Runners discussed the impending closure and in the face of rampant rumours of the “demise of the Spud Run” asked a Blue Knight with contacts in Boise to help with an “unofficial” search to find a possible replacement establishment to which Blue Knights would "unofficially" be invited. We are pleased to announce a place has been found for 2007 where, once again, everyone is invited!

DATES: May 23-25, 2008.
LOCATION: RODEWAY INN 1115 North Curtis Rd, Boise, ID 83706
REGISTRATION: 1-800-727-5002 or 1-208-376-2700
RATES: All Blue Knights' rooms will be $59.95 Arrival or staying an extra day may be the same rate.
CANCELLATION POLICY: Cancel at least 4 days in advance, 50% first night penalty, cancel within 2 days forfeit first night's payment.

The Rodeway Inn has graciously offered to keep up the tradition and put on a BBQ on the Saturday night as was provided by the University Inn. If you wish to attend you must purchase your tickets at the time of registration. Cost is $12 for adults and $6.95 for children. For more information on the motel, [see their website].

Note that your reservations at the University Inn are [poof!] history. You must make new reservations at the Rodeway Inn. The letter that some of you received from the Safari Inn in Boise offering accommodations was initiated by the University Inn as the Safari is their “sister property”. The Safari Inn is not associated to the Spud Run.

As in 1992 some Blue Knights will be in Boise on the Memorial Day Weekend in 2007. You are all invited to join them for this unofficial weekend of friendship, camraderie and good old fashioned fun at the Rodeway Inn!

MAKE YOUR RESERVATIONS NOW. When it's full, it's full.

Ride with Pride... and see you in Boise!

REFLECTIONS FROM A COUPLE OF YEARS AGO

:

The weather in Boise was perfect over Memorial Day week-end!  The Spud Run now is in the books as they say.  Cindi and I rode along with Bob and Cammy Seelye, we caught up to another group headed in that direction, in Baker City.  We played leap frog with that group for the next several miles.  Even though we were forced to remain on the interstate, it still was a good motorcycle ride.  But, there really isn’t a bad motorcycle ride, is there?  The University Inn was packed with Blue Knights from all around.  There were bikes of all makes and types, I think that HD was predominant though.  There was even a beautiful, brand new Harley Davidson Special Edition Ford pick-up.  The only thing missing was the HD in the cargo area, oops, sorry. Familiar faces were seen around the pool area and cleaning up the bikes; with the exception of some from Wyoming, Montana, and Alberta who had a difficult time with unprecedented snowfall between them and us.  We spent the week-end poolside, enjoying refreshments in the lounge, seeing old friends, and a few of the wives got together for an afternoon at the Outlet Mall.

This is a "come as you are" event for couples, solo riders, families and friends with no registration fee or formal structure. According to Jerry Beem, the Spud Run is the WCC's Premier Spring Ride-and-gathering!   I have to agree with him, it is truly an awesome time.
